Analyzing My Results from the Amazon Influencer Program

In this article, I will be sharing my results from the Amazon influencer program in the month of December, which is the prime sales season. However, more importantly, I will be analyzing what sold and what didn't sell, what did well, and what surprised me. I will share with you the findings from the videos that I made and the videos that sold products so that you can learn more about what works well. I will also discuss how I plan to do things differently next year with the knowledge I have gained from this year.

Results from the Amazon Influencer Program

In December, I broke the $4,000 mark for the second month in a row, earning $4,026.30. While this is a great achievement, it was lower than November's $4,266.110. I was happy to have come in above $4,000 for the second month in a row, but I was a bit disappointed because I saw so many others earn a lot more than they did in November, and I earned a little less than I did in November. I think I know some of the reasons why, and I will share them with you.

Analysis of What Sold and What Didn't Sell

About 10-12 days into December, I was thinking I was going to have a $6,000 or even a $7,000 month, but things started dropping off a lot sooner than I thought. I started investigating why that dip was happening. I wasn't sure if it was because Amazon had changed something with where the videos were located, or if it was because of a change in buying patterns. I wasn't sure if the videos were still there, but I had lost my influencer video play for some of the better selling products. What I did was go look at the products I was selling the most of.

In the month of December, I started selling a certain product with a ton of repetition throughout the first part of the month. Every day, the majority of my clicks and the majority of my sales were around one single product. So, I started by looking at that single product, and what I found was interesting. The videos were still there, but when I went to the product page, there was a big banner that said "won't arrive by Christmas." I was 99% sure that was the reason why the sales dropped off a cliff, and why my clicks and earnings dropped precipitously.

What Worked Well and What Surprised Me

What was selling well in the month of December? Number one, gift products. Obviously, it's hard when you are making videos to think about products in terms of whether they make a good gift or not because a lot of my best-selling products up until Q4 were not gift products. They were what I would call household products, essential products, products that you need on a daily basis, or things that you would use on a daily basis. I had a lot of these around my house, so they were very easy videos to make. But that's not what's causing the increase in sales in the Q4 sales season. People aren't getting up on Black Friday and saying, "Oh my goodness, I can't wait to buy a Windex in bulk." What's driving people are gifts, things you can give to people.

The number two thing that I saw trending in terms of sales were what I will call upgrades. These aren't necessarily gifts, but these are things that people are buying whether for themselves or for others, maybe in their household, that are an upgrade from what they already have. Let's take a look at my number one best-selling product in December, and it was for a higher-end coffee product. In other words, what I mean is it's a product that helps you out with your coffee, but there are significantly cheaper versions of it. This product does it better, does it faster, does it quicker, does it quieter, has more customized settings, looks nicer, etc. It's more expensive, and people were buying this as an upgrade from what they already had.

Changes I Will Make Next Year

Going into 2024, thinking about products as whether they're gifts or not is going to change the way I think about things. It's going to require a little bit of a mindset change. I'm not saying not to make videos about more household products or things that people wouldn't buy as gifts, but I am saying that I need to put a higher precedent on gift items because people are willing to open their wallet. While it's a short period of time, a couple of months, it's a big period of time if you can get videos created around gift products.

Year in Review

In total, I made 1,031 videos in the year of 2023, and I earned $18,779.51. This is going to be my last monthly video about my Amazon influencer journey. I've made six months worth of videos, and I still will make the occasional video from time to time, but I'm not going to be doing monthly updates any longer.
