The old adage "Buy Well, Buy Once" certainly applies to the double boiler. When one only needs the Top part of this arrangement with plenty of volume to accommodate things like 7-minute Frosting, THIS is the only one that I have found that fits the bill. It is absolutely true to the measurements given in the description, has a long handle that is riveted to the pan and comes with a stainless steel lid.
Used this to melt my chocolate this year for holiday candies. Works absolutely great and I love that I can choose what pots to put it in!

I love this pan. Got rid of like 6 other pans to replace it with this pan. It cooks the food better too because whatever you're cooking isn't crowded. I use it for a stockpot too
My daughter got me this item on Amazon for Christmas. It seems like a good quality but the rounded bottom is a nightmare. I use it to make 7 minute frosting on the stove. It requires mixing the ingredients in the double boiler first (with a hand mixer) for a couple of minutes before putting over the heat. This was difficult with the rounded bottom on the countertop. After cooking the icing over the stove for 7 minutes, have to take off of the heat and mix for 2 more minutes. Same issue. Can’t sit it down on the counter. I ended up sitting it inside of a large pan to hold it... Also, the handle could be thicker. When it gets full of ingredients and gets heavier the handle hurts my hand.

I underestimated it’s size. It’s the hugest pan with a huge capacity. It’s well built and heavy. I don’t know what “classic dish” this could be used for, but it’s not for day too day. It’s that big and cumbersome. I love it, but I didn’t watch the dimensions or size. If this is truly the size you want— it’s excellent in every way then.
