Had I looked at the operating cost of the Brady I would have never purchased it. But I will say the nylon tape sure does wrap nicely. But overall the BMP 21 PLUS really leaves you wanting more features. It's a one trick pony so don't buy it for anything other than wire marking. You won't be able to print more than a few characters per label even with 6pt font size no matter which layout you choose. Extremely limited functionality and archaic menu system will have you frustrated as you henpeck your shorthand over and over again. To give an example; there isn't a "clear all characters" so you have to hit backspace quite a lot. "Hold it down" you might think, because that's how most old tech gets things done a little faster. But oh, no, you have to press the backspace button for each and every character you ever type into the thing. Powering off doesn't help since it holds memory. Speaking of power. This thing takes a whopping 8 AA batteries. But don't waste your ProCells on it because it eats batteries when off. I slip a piece of paper in the contacts when not in use now, but if I forget to and pick it up to use it a few weeks later, it's dead... 8 brand new batteries. Dead. Take them out when not in use. What am I saying, don't even buy it, it shows support for such a disenchanting product. Brady needs to do a major upgrade. Ought to use some of the overpriced-label profit for development. While I'm a little passionate about it I might as well give a couple last thoughts to the engineers: This really should come with a neodymium magnet to slap it against the breaker panel where you'll likely use it most frequently. Pennies for such a practical feature. Maybe that's asking too much, but let's be fair- you didn't put a belt clip on it? It's a field instrument. C'mon, give me something I can work with.
Brady should give you a printer so you will buy the tapes. Expensive, but very tough, perfect for wire id. Backing peels easily, really no negatives except price.
