Wanted this to convert Modbus-TCP to Modbus-RTU for a Watlow PM6 controller on a TestEquity TEC1 chamber. Used a web browser to login to it and configure the RS-232 settings. Parameters: 9600,8,N,1, everything else 0 and unchecked. Socket A TCP Server | Modbus-TCP. Change port number to 502 (Modbus-TCP default). Everything else was at default, unchecked or set to none. Socket B is none. Tried a PyModbus script at first but couldn't get it working. Connected the RS-232 output to my computer comport and used a comport monitor/sniffer (SerialMon) and saw the RTU address in the Modbus-RTU packet was 0. Remembered there is a Unit ID in a Modbus-TCP packet so figured that might be the way to set that and it was. Added unit = 1 to the read_input_registers and write_registers and then it started working. The included RS-232 cable is null modem (I only checked TX and RX) so it worked with this chamber as-is. TestEquity chambers need null modem cables so was able to connect right to the DB-9 on the TEC1. The cable is also F/F so don't need a gender changer either. You could use this with a Watlow F4 on a TestEquity chamber too as it's wired up the same way. I've only used it a little while but it seems to be working good so far.
